Earth Observation data is now widely used for social, economic and environmental analyses and many of the products derived from the analysis of these datasets are regularly used as inputs for taking critical decisions relating to human and environmental management. It is however well known that products derived from the analysis of Earth Observation data are prone to varying degrees of errors that may limit their use for decision-making and policy formulation. In achieving the goals of accurate map products derived from EO data, practitioners must understand the processes of measuring accuracy and the steps required for deriving a high level of map accuracy. This course will seek to expose learners to the process of data collection and processing that will enhance the accuracy of map products. Learners participating in this course will also be introduced to necessary tools for computing the accuracy of map products in a manner that is effective and efficient. The training will provide theoretical and practical information for understating and assessing map errors.
